STANDARDS ORGANIZATIONS

  • American National Standards Institute - ANSI
    Founded in 1918 by five engineering societies and three government agencies, ANSI serves as administrator and coordinator of the United States private sector voluntary standardization system.

  • American Society for Testing and Materials - ASTM
    ASTM develops and provides voluntary consensus standards, related technical information, and services having internationally recognized quality and applicability that promote public health and safety, and the overall quality of life.

  • Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc. - BOCA
    Founded in 1915, BOCA is comprised of more than 16,000 members who span the building community, dedicated to preserving the public health, safety and welfare in the built environment through the use and enforcement of Model Codes.

  • International Code Council - ICC
    In 1994 ICC was formed to develop a single set of comprehensive and coordinated national codes. The ICC founders created the ICC in response to technical disparities among the three sets of model codes now in use in the U.S.

  • International Conference of Building Officials - ICBO
    ICBO has been a leading source of building and related construction codes for more than 75 years. In addition to providing the codes, ICBO offers a multidisciplined certification program, a variety of seminars, training manuals, and videos.

  • International Organization for Standardization - ISO
    ISO is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies from some 130 countries, one from each country. A non-governmental organization established in 1947, its mission is to promote development of global standardization activities.

  • International Society for Measurement and Control - ISA
    ISA is an international, nonprofit, educational organization. The Society fosters advancement in the theory, design, manufacture, and use of instruments, computers, and systems for measurement and control.

  • National Fire Protection Association - NFPA
    NFPA was organized in 1896 to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating scientifically-based consensus codes and standards, research, training, and education.

  • National Safety Council - NSC
    NSC seeks to educate and influence society to adopt safety, health and environmental policies, practices and procedures that prevent and mitigate human suffering and economic losses arising from preventable causes.

  • Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. - UL
    UL is an independent product safety testing and certification organization founded in 1894. Each year, more than 14 billion UL Marks are applied to products worldwide.
